FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers on timing, finance and what happens when you enquire.
Timing: now or later?
How do I know whether to borrow now or wait?
Compare two dollar figures: what waiting costs (lost profit, making-do costs, price rises and one-off losses over your realistic waiting period) and the total dollar cost of the finance. If waiting clearly costs more, the payoff is proven and repayments come from the cash the decision creates, now usually wins. Our cost-of-waiting calculator does the comparison.
Will you ever tell me to wait?
Yes. If the payoff is unproven, repayments would clash with wages, super or tax, or a decisive event is only weeks away, waiting is often the smarter call. We'd rather say so than arrange finance that doesn't serve you.
Should I wait for interest rates to fall?
Only if the saving would be bigger than what the delay costs. For most short-term business borrowing, months of lost profit outweigh a modest change in price. Nobody can reliably predict rate moves, so decide on the business case.
Is the $20,000 instant asset write-off still available?
Yes. The ATO says the $20,000 threshold is now law and permanent from 1 July 2026 for small businesses with aggregated turnover under $10 million. It applies per asset, and the asset must be first used or installed ready for use in the income year you claim it.
Should I buy equipment before 30 June?
If you need it anyway, it can be installed ready for use by 30 June, and this year's profit makes the deduction worthwhile, yes. If you're buying only for the deduction, usually not — a deduction saves tax at your rate, not the full price.
When should I arrange finance for my busy season?
Six to ten weeks before your costs start, which is often well before customers arrive. For imported stock, that can mean several months ahead.
Finance
How much can my business borrow?
Property-secured business loans run from $20,000 to $5,000,000, using residential or commercial property as security. Unsecured, cash-flow and line-of-credit options for trading businesses typically run from $5,000 to $500,000, sized on turnover and bank statements.
What can the money be used for?
Business purposes only: equipment, vehicles, stock, staff ramp-up, fit-outs, expansions, contracts, tax debt and working capital.
Do you publish interest rates?
No. Every loan is priced on its individual circumstances — security, purpose, term, trading and credit history. We talk in total dollar cost for your situation, which is the fair figure to compare with the cost of waiting.
Can you help if I have ATO debt?
Often. ATO debt is considered case by case. Since 1 July 2025, ATO interest charges aren't tax deductible, which makes the timing of clearing tax debt more important than it used to be.
Can you help if I've had credit problems?
Past credit issues are considered case by case. Be upfront on the form so we can look at realistic options from the start.
What documents will I need?
Usually recent business bank statements, ID, ABN or ACN details, the quote or contract you're funding, a list of existing debts and your ATO position. Property details if you're offering security.
The enquiry process
Does enquiring affect my credit score?
No. There's no credit check when you first enquire. It's only discussed if you decide to go ahead with an application.
Will my details be sent to lots of lenders?
No. We don't do spray and pray. One team looks at your situation and matches it to a suitable lender, so you won't be flooded with calls.
Who will I speak to?
A real lending specialist who has read your enquiry — not a call centre reading a script.
Why do you ask me to fill in the form accurately?
Because the short form shapes everything that follows. Accurate details about the amount, purpose, state, turnover and any property mean the first option we show you is one that genuinely fits.
How long does the enquiry take?
About 60 seconds. A specialist then calls you to talk it through.
Is there any cost or obligation to enquire?
No. Enquiring is free and doesn't commit you to anything.
Still weighing it up?
Try the now-or-later quiz or the cost-of-waiting calculator. Or skip straight to a real answer: start a 60-second enquiry or call 1300 752 188.
Decided now is the time? See if you qualify.
A 60-second enquiry, no credit check to ask, and one lending specialist who works on your numbers rather than passing them around. If waiting looks smarter, we will say so.
